Nógrád Wildlife Park
The Nógrád Wildlife Park, which is worth visiting at dinnertime , where the animals are not caged, but can be admired from a tractor, a high platform or the back of a truck in their habitat in the middle of a beautiful forest. It's the experience of a lifetime to watch the animals appear one after the other from the depths of the forest, as slowly, to the sound of a tractor carrying food, 350 to 400 animals (wild boar, roe deer and fallow deer) emerge from the forest and gather in the valley, peacefully dining side by side, in great harmony and in complete tranquillity.

Katalinpuszta Hiking Centre ; Gyada Nature Trail
One of the best-known child- and family-friendly educational trails in Hungary was established on the Gyadai-ree. The 5.2 km long trail with 13 stations takes 2.5-3 hours to complete. In winter and summer, the proximity of the forest and meadow and the wildlife of the area is exciting for all ages. There are information boards to help you find your way around, but the most exciting features are the Giants' Rest, the winding boardwalk and the 30-metre-long suspension bridge.

As the gorge is a comfortable 2 - 2.5 hours max, there is plenty of time to travel a little further - in time even further. It's a good quarter of an hour's drive to Ipolytarnóc, a tiny Nógrád village on the outskirts of the Geopark. The park, which is largely free to enter, exudes an elusive calm.

As the gorge is a comfortable 2 - 2.5 hours max, there is plenty of time to travel a little further - in time even further. It's a good quarter of an hour's drive to Ipolytarnóc, a tiny Nógrád village on the outskirts of the Geopark. The park, which is largely free to enter, exudes an elusive calm.

It is also known as the Hungarian Kappadokia, a special natural formation near the Kazár. The snow-white rhyolite tuff, easily recognisable by its snow-white colour, covers hundreds of 100 m2 and is the result of a major volcanic eruption 20 million years ago. The volcanic debris falling from the air once buried the soil like an avalanche and created the tufa deposits, which are several tens of metres thick. Today, the snow-white trenches and hills look mostly like someone drew patterns on the ground with a whipped cream bottle.

The 22-hectare site has a 2 km nature trail with nearly 600 plant species from three continents (Europe, Asia and North America). You can learn about the pine forests of the Rocky Mountains, the sequoias of California, the semi-deserts of Oregon, the colourful plants of Japan, the bamboo groves of China, the forests of our own country and the spruce of the Carpathians. And in the Wildlife Park's paddocks, native big game species can be seen in environments similar to their native habitats. There's also a small playground at the entrance, and the drive up to the lake is fabulous. Be sure to check the current opening times before you go!
